Hand Up Program at Family Promise of Brevard
The best time to stop homelessness is BEFORE it happens. HAND UP, is a homeless prevention and diversion program. The goal of this program is to coordinate a single point of entry for front-end homeless prevention. We work with at-risk households before they become homeless. Implemented in January 2017 in collaboration with the Sharing Center of Central Brevard and the Brevard Homeless Coalition, this program helps change the future of at-risk families forever.
Our ‘seamless’ client-centered intake system allows individuals and families in crisis to apply for multiple benefits at one location. These locations are equipped to serve basic needs and provide housing and eviction prevention assistance.
HUMI (Help us Move In): In 2017, Family Promise of Brevard was one of ten Family Promise affiliates selected to receive the $20,000 Homeless No More Challenge Grant over the next two years ($10,000 per year) for move in costs and eviction prevention for families.
This past school year, over 2,900 students were coded as homeless in Brevard County. Additional funding from the Homeless No More Challenge Grant will help ensure that homelessness in Brevard County is brief, rare and non- recurring.
We are excited to be able to impact even more families and change the course of their lives forever.
